Desperate Measures and Stirring
Memories
Mr. Trump was joined by his true
"Apprenti,"
Ivanka and
Donald Jr. (who both work in the Trump
Organization), and Ameriquest Executive Brian Woods as he assigned the
candidates their
task: To design, create and sell a limited
edition Ameriquest Souvenir Program for The Ellis Island Foundation.
Allie's strong
emotional family connection to the immigrant experience prompted her to take
the lead as PM of Synergy.
Lee, however, felt spurred to assume
command of Gold Rush out of self preservation. He realized how close he'd
been to being fired, especially in the last boardroom: "That seat in the
boardroom has my rear end imprinted on it." Rising to the challenge, Lee
realized that putting himself on the PM hot seat also set him squarely in
Mr. Trump's spotlight: "His eye is on me right now. If we lose five in row,
I'm going home."
The American Dream…of Winning
With
Mr. Trump's ominous well wishes ringing in
their ears ("I hope you people start doing well—you've lost four in a row"),
Gold Rush kicked it up a notch. PM
Lee dispatched
Michael and
Tarek to Ellis Island to capture digital
images for Gold Rush's brochure, while he and
Charmaine made cold calls trying to drum up
bulk sales. Driven to excel by the corporation's past failures, Gold Rush
rose at dawn and claimed the prime spot in
Battery Park where the tourists line up for Circle Line boats to Ellis
Island.
By the time Synergy showed up, they were well behind. Plus, Gold Rush was at
odds with
Andrea throughout production. She had
rankled PM
Allie,
Tammy and
Roxanne with her brusque manner while the
corporation was gathering assets. "Andrea has an awful attitude," said
Roxanne. "Andrea's sole goal in life is to make the PM's life a living
hell." Also, despite Andrea touting herself as a graphics expert, her layout
and design skills proved weak, forcing major last-minute changes to
Synergy's brochure. Despite being
outfoxed by Gold Rush for the best sales
location, Synergy improvised and boarded the ferries to Ellis Island, hoping
to win with their impressive sales skills, which had served them so well in
winning the previous four tasks.
Celebration and Trepidation
Gold Rush's superior location, hard work and creativity paid off as they
nearly doubled Synergy's total sales, $1548.68 to $848.40. In addition,
Ameriquest kicked in an extra $10,000 for the Ellis Island Fund! But the
results led to instant rancor for Synergy, as
Allie surprised
Trump,
Ivanka and
Donald Jr. by criticizing
Andrea's inability to get along with her
colleagues. Trump was stunned to hear that Synergy didn't see Andrea as a
star.
Unquestionably stellar, however, was golf legend Vijay Singh, who joined
Gold Rush and Mr. Trump for
a day on the links at Trump National Golf
Club in Bedminster, NJ.
Tarek impressed everyone, including Vijay,
with his long drives that went straight down the fairway. But there was no
day in the sun for Synergy, who would soon find themselves in the rough of
the boardroom.
Allie Sees Red and Andrea Sees the
Exit
Allie's bold
boardroom prediction for
Andrea didn't quite come true ("We will
tear her apart…there will be
blood on the walls."), but Andrea swiftly
found herself under attack from her Synergy colleagues. Confronted by
Mr. Trump about the corporation's failure
on the task, Allie admitted that there were several things that went wrong
but ascribed the worst errors to Andrea. In addition,
Roxanne characterized Andrea as "very
difficult." But Andrea defended herself, "I'm a very strong candidate for
this job and these people are rallying so they don't have to go against me
in the end."
Andrea's claim of being a
graphics expert was disputed by Allie, and
Andrea's 11th hour mention of her bulk sales expertise was criticized as
coming way too late in the task by
Donald Jr.
Tammy suggested that Andrea "created a lot
of stress that didn't need to be there," adding that "Andrea's disruptive to
the team and she does not know how to be managed." Only
Sean defended Andrea, though his
endorsement was mild at best. In the end, Trump sided with Allie against
Andrea. "You may be a good leader," Trump told Andrea. "But a really great
leader is somebody who can also follow—at least to a certain extent."
Forgoing the usual final return for a boardroom showdown, Trump unloaded on
a stunned Andrea: "You destroy the chemistry of this team. And Andrea,
you're fired."
