Big Board Presentations
2001-2002

1) Choose a topic and thesis for your research paper. You will be reading one book (or play, if you prefer) from the Pulitzer Prize list.  You will have one or two other students who are also reading this book.  Although you will be writing individual research papers, you will present these books as a team.  Team big board presentations should discuss why the book is worthy or unworthy of the prize as well as how it demonstrates American life in the decade it was written.

2) Note the date of your presentation:

1/14-25: BIG BOARD PRESENTATIONS- 1/14-20s;   1/15-30s;  1/16-40s;

1/17-50s;   1/18- Vocab Bee;   1/22-60s;    1/23-70s;   1/24-80s;   1/25-90s

3) Outlines of presentations must be approved by me at least one week prior to presentation date:  a brief description of what you will do in your presentation

4) Presentations must include the following:

·        THEME DISCUSSION:  An interesting and cogent discussion of the book’s theme, why the book is worthy or unworthy of the prize, and how it demonstrates American life in the decade it was written.

·        THREE MULTIGENRE PIECES:  THIS IS YOUR TIME TO BE CREATIVE:  Use shocking words, unique types of writing, graphics, or artwork to convey the thesis of your future research paper (Let me clarify that this is an additional assignment to your research paper--a chance to flesh out creatively what you will write in a more conventional style in a few weeks).

 Some suggestions of genres are the following:

fairy tales campaign speeches newscasts historical fiction children’s books
